The Cruising Club of Charleston invites you to join us! We are a group of boaters who enjoy the comity and challenge of cruising our vessels to different locations around Charleston each month for an overnight. As a group, we offer education, support and, sometimes, adventure to one another.

Our membership is expanding! Originally, eligibility into the Cruising Club of Charleston was reserved for sailing vessels only. However, in 2000, (as more of us grew older and moved to Trawlers) we opened the eligibility to all boat owners of "cruising type" vessels, sail or power.

EDUCATION

On the first Thursday evening of each month, the Cruising Club of Charleston meets at 8:00 PM for an instructional or educational presentation. Boating topics range from "The Care of Diesel Engines" to "Shipwrecked in the Caribbean". Preceding the meeting, at 7:00 PM, we order drinks and dinner from the Point Grill Restaurant menu.

Following the educational presentation is a short business meeting that always includes instructions regarding the upcoming monthly overnight cruise.

The meetings are conveniently held in the private dinning room of the Point Grill Restaurant at the Omar Shrine Temple on Patriot’s Point Road in Mt. Pleasant. Parking is free and secure.

CRUISES

On the first weekend of the month (following the first Thursday of each month), the Cruising Club of Charleston hosts its monthly cruise. This is the time for us to overnight on Saturday night at different locations around the Charleston water area. Examples of anchorage sites are: Sandy Point (at the convergence of the Folly River and the Stono River), Dewees Island, Moise Island, and Toogoodoo Creek.

All boats converge on a pre-announced site in time for a cocktail party at 5:00 PM. One boat each month serves as the "host boat" and has free adult beverages for all attending. Each boat brings an hor d'oeuvre to share.

Following the cocktail hour (which is loosely defined), everyone repairs to his or her own boat for dinner and the evening. Breakfast is also an individual activity, with boats exiting the anchorage at different times to return to their home dockage.

A good time is had by all.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Of course, heading this list are the cocktail hours held during the Cruising Club of Charleston's monthly cruises. But, we also have additional social activities:

Each December we have a Christmas Dinner Party with the club furnishing a turkey, ham, and open bar, with members bringing a side dish. The evening is topped off with our famous "Chinese Gift Drawing", a fun event.

In January, we stay on land for a traditional Low Country Oyster Roast, and in March, the Annual Installation of Officers Dinner.

Each September, we have our annual "Luau" dinner -- complete with Mai Tai and pig! In recent times, both the Luau and the Oyster Roast have been held at a members home, accessible by water or land.
